Be Single…Be Happy

Thea February 27th, 2007

Last night i read an article elaborating about single women. This morning, i read my friend’s blog which also tells about being single.

Beginning with questions..Why do people feel disturbed when there’s a woman deciding being single. Why are they so worried seeing a single woman choosing to pursue her career instead of marrying a man?  Why they keep asking if that woman is normal or not just because she prefers single? Why every mother in the world insists their daughter to have their own family someday? Why people think being unmarried means unhappy?

Many questions like those are in my head right now. However, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to have my own family, to have my husband who faithfully accompany me no matter what. I still retain my dream of raising children and ask them to speak English daily. But, I oppose opinion saying that women who choose being single as their ultimate option. Marriage is a thing. Single is a thing. Happiness and sadness are other things. Yet they don’t correlate each other. Sadness is not a thing included in being single. And happiness isn’t in a package with a marriage. In other words, being single doesn’t necessarily being unhappy.

Vacation, Lazyness, and I Love Monday!!!

Thea February 19th, 2007

I love to have a chance visiting new place. Thanks God now I’m working in a company which gives me chance to visit place I’ve never visited before. Friday till Sunday last week, I went to Makasar. I didn’t have many times to visit the interesting places, yet I could realize several those in my itinerary. Luckily, I was lodged in a hotel located nearby the most popular site in Makasar, Losari Beach. Every morning I stood in the window overviewing the beach, looking at people who were walking along the beach. It was releasing.

On Saturday, my friends and I went to Somba Opu, which is Makassar Handicraft Center. It’s located not far from my hotel. My friend decided to buy golden jewelry, while I kept my passion on looking for Makassar Silk. Makassar Silk is actually a material made of pineapple. I was informed that Makassar Silk has premium quality among others. We walked along the street of Somba Opu. And finally I found what I wanted in small shop. The motif was varied and I bought two meters of silk for me and two meters other for my mom. I plan to make a dress for my best friend wedding in March from that silk.

Due to the pretty tight schedule on Friday night and Saturday, on Sunday morning, when I had to go back to Jakarta, I was so sleepy and exhausted. While waiting for boarding in the airport, a short message came. It was from my mom informing that my Dad would soon be posted in Bandung. That means that he will not stay in Jogja anymore.

Entering the airplane, I still felt so sluggish. Two-hour air trip was so boring. I could wait to arrive at Jakarta and slept in my room!!! When finally I got home, in fact I couldn’t sleep soon. Being left for almost three days, made my room looked mess. That’s why I needed to clean it up. Could I start sleeping soon after that? No!! I still washed my dirty clothes. I couldn’t stay calmed while there were dirty clothes waiting to be washed. Having washed all the clothes, then I became free. I slept for about one hour. Finally, I could rest my body.

However, now I’m standing in front of my computer, still with exhausted body. Meanwhile, there are a lot of piles of job need to be handled. Many agreements require to be processed. This morning I called my boyfriend and told him how lazy I was. He laughed at me while I knew that he was as lazy as me because he was sleeping when I called him.

Stop!! It can be tolerated any longer. I have to spur up my spirit. Working on Monday can’t be as happy as having holiday on Saturday and Sunday. Yet you won’t be at Saturday and Monday if you don’t experience the hectic Monday. So, let’s say I love Monday!!!!

Hot Water

Thea February 9th, 2007

My mom always says” Use hot water if you take a bath in the night!” I don’t know why I used to be so lazy preparing hot water for bath every time I went home late at night. If my mother had known about that, she would have been very angry with me. Meanwhile, my frequency of taking bath is quite often. In other words, almost every day I have to do such ritual due to my late activity at the office.

However, things change now. As the rainy season underway, the temperature is getting cool. I don’t have any choice but boiling water for bath. It takes about 10-15 minutes for preparing it. While waiting the water, I watch TV, read book, or do some phone calls.

It turns out that hot water gives me comfort. I feel like that every tiny part of it delivers massaging effect. My body is relaxed and becomes fresh. In addition, I can say goodbye to the temperature which always successfully makes my body chilled.

Now, hot water becomes a-must item for taking a bath in the night. I also think of having an automatic water burner once I have my own home later. Hence no need to boil water anymore as it will always be well-prepared to me every time I want it.

Flood is Everywhere

Thea February 2nd, 2007

It’s rainy day!! Hallelujah!!!

Rainy season in Jakarta means flood season. Again, big floods paralyze the capital of Indonesia. It’s like annual sickness that infects this big city every year. It’s actually a classic problem, yet the solution to overcome this seems so far to discover.

Like now, vast floods are everywhere with varied heights. The heavy rains which have been starting since last night continue pouring. Honestly speaking, I like this rainy season as the weather isn’t as hot as usual. However, there are many people in certain enclaves are afraid of the coming rainy season as it means that floods are threatening them. Just like last night, I couldn’t sleep until midnight because I was afraid that my area would be one of those flooded areas. Luckily it doesn’t happen. The drainage system in my area can be said one of the well-managed in Jakarta.

As reported in media, the flood continues spreading. Yet, it hasn’t claimed any casualty so far (let’s pray it won’t). Due to this flood, heavy traffic jams are occurring everywhere. Even, some of toll roads become inaccessible. In Kampung Melayu district, about 3000 residents are fleeing to the safer place like school. I watched on TV this morning and found out that their condition is terrible. Lack of dried clothes and meals for children become main issues. It’s worried that windfall effect such as disease will arise.

Hopefully, this won’t be longer. It’s our mutual responsibility to make the city where we live better. It’s true that government is the party who’s responsible on this problem. However, as residents, we have to involve ourselves in contributing efforts to prevent such condition from happening in the future. It’s simple such as not littering in river or public areas or keeping the green areas.
