Au Revoir Tante
Thea April 20th, 2007
My first encounter with her was four five years ago. She smiled toward me when I visited her child. It was warm. Yes, it was warm when I shook her hand and she asked my name. We started talking. The topic was about my origin, where I lived and many things.
Then, we became even close. Visiting your home, not only meant visiting your child, but also meant seeing you. Simply to taste your hot tea or tried nice chocolate you brought from abroad.
Five years passed very fast. When I had to leave Jogja, and your child had to be in Australia for studying. Thus, we rarely met. I always tried to spare my time to pass by to your nice home when I went to Jogja. My last visit to your home was last month. I saw you sick. Lying weakly, trying to fight against the cancer. Though you talked hesitantly, you clearly delivered what’s in your mind. I knew that you survived, despite the sickness that took you to the lowest point of your life. Really, I knew it Tante.
Now you passed away. Tante, you’re not defeated by the cancer. It’s just your turn and our turn will arrive. Au revoir Tante…..
